Colorado Ice Rock and Snow

Our home base on the Western Slope of Colorado has some of the most outstanding opportunities for adventure.

If you are interested in climbing rock, there is no shortage of desert towers, multi-pitch adventures in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, or even sport climbing around Ouray.

Higher in the mountains, the alpine ridges of Mount Sneffels, Vestal Peak, and Mount Snowdon are wonderful outings that will put you on a spectacular San Juan summit.

In winter, the San Juan mountains have some of the best and most easily accessed ice in the lower 48. If you want to try ice climbing for the first time, the famous Ouray Ice Park is one of the best places to do it. Or head into the mountains and climb Stairway to Heaven, Colorado's longest ice climb.

Feel like making turns? The San Juan mountains also have some of the best powder skiing and couloirs anywhere. All of which is a short drive from Ouray or Silverton, making multi-sport days part of the winter routine here. If you want to swing some tools in the morning, and make some turns in the afternoon, Ouray is the place to do it. With over 16 years of exploring the range, we’ll know what ice is good to go, and where the softest turns around are.
